The Henry Cotton Championship course at Penina was the first course to open in the Algarve. Penina has hosted European Tour events as well as several other professional tournaments. With another 9-hole course on site as well as an academy course, the hotel can cater for all standards of golfer.

The accommodation at Penina is best described as traditional luxury. The lounge and common areas are dotted with antiques with fascinating stories to be told. Golf groups are likely to have particular interest in the full-size snooker table which sat in a basement for decades. This all changed when snooker player John Higgins stayed at the hotel. In need of a practice table, Higgins learned of the old antique gathering dust and had it brought up to modern standards. The table now has pride of place just off the lobby.
